Not sure why but I haven't written anything on this blog in 2 months. I actually purposely created this second blog in order to document my year abroad in Mainz... and what have I done? Completely neglected my duties.
Anyway. I'm here. I'm loving it. It's been the best 7 weeks of my life so far, to be honest. It's been a much easier transition that I would have ever expected. I feel so comfortable here, and the Eramus programme in Mainz is just incredible - the social aspect of being an Erasmus student, that is.
I feel like I've made many friends - and so quick too. My German does seem to be improving and my confidence is increasing a great deal too.
I've discovered a new found love for Beer. Yes, that's right - Beer. Whereas I was always a Cider bloke - or the occasional gin and tonic, or spirit with coke bloke - I have embraced the German way of life and Beer is the way of life here. I even capitalise the word Beer because it's just SO important here. It's a lifestyle - not just a beverage!
University is actually quite enjoyable. The lectures and seminars are a lot longer than what I'm used to in England, and because they are totally in German (for 1 hour 30 mins straight) I do find it hard to concentrate and translate every single sentence. But hey ho, if it wasn't a challenge I wouldn't be here.

Coming to Mainz has been so much easier than I thought - and whilst I do miss my friends and family back at home, I don't "miss" them in the respect of longing to go home and crying myself to sleep "missing" them. I haven't felt down once since I've been here, I've just been on some German cloud 9 if I'm honest. I hope I don't fall off any time soon!
I've started studying Korean too, and have managed to form a little friendship group with some Korean girls. I just love it so much, and it's really reinforcing why I love Korean culture so much. It's been a dream to learn this wonderful language for so long, and I do feel blessed to be just experiencing my little piece of South Korea in Germany.
The picture that I've posted above is from today - the 11th of the 11th. It was a Carnival day in Germany, a pre-celebration before the official week-long carnival in February. The celebrations kicked off with Glüwein and Beer at 11.11am (all the elevens, eh?) and went on throughout the afternoon. The guy with the paper maché suit was kind of to be in a photo with us - wie suß!
Well, maybe I'll write something else sooner rather than later. Maybe it'll be another 2 months, another 2 weeks, another 2 days. I'll probably forget and never sign in, but for now - I'm posting this. Auf Wiedersehen.
