Looking back on 2011: SISTAR / 씨스타

I want to start a new feature for the past couple of weeks of December where I look back on the past year of K-Pop. The first act I will concentrate on when "looking back on 2011" is SISTAR / 씨스타.

THE BASICS
4 Member Girl Group: Bora, Hyorin, Soyu, Dasom.
Hit Singles: Push Push, Shady Girl, How Dare You, So Cool
Album: So Cool

MY THOUGHTS
OK, I'll be honest. Wans't a fan of SISTAR at all. I didn't really understand what they were about. But after listening to their "So Cool" album of this year, I really fell in love with them. They aren't exactly a rookie group anymore and "So Cool" definately established them as one of the big Korean girl groups. So for me, they're the biggest surprise of the year. I wasn't sold on "So Cool" when I first heard it, but the more I listened to it, the more I grew to love it. It's so infectious! But for me, it was the entire "So Cool" album that really got me hooked. It was just 12 tracks of fantastically crafted R&B/Dance numbers from start to finish. I definately think they shine on their uptempo numbers, but it's impossible to deny that actually they're actually one of the best bands vocally. And "So Cool" definately shows off their mighty vocal talents - most noticably in 약한 남자 싫어 (the album's ballad) and "MY BOY".

These girls also exude STYLE. They are really classy and confident, and they haven't shoved a sexy concept down our throats.

I cannot wait for what 2012 has in show for these girls.
